“Users can make food and drink orders, get on-demand game stats, and can even order special camera angles for the game, all through voice command.”
Amazon’s Alexa AI assistant has taken up residence at Seattle’s Safeco Field.
The technology has been embedded in the ballpark’s premium suites, complementing the other VIP amenities available to subscribers. It operates via a nine-inch audio device, and offers special functionality tailored to the ballpark. Users can make food and drink orders, get on-demand game stats, and can even order special camera angles for the game, all through voice command.
For the Mariners, who call Safeco Field home, it’s a way of improving fan service. Amazon, meanwhile, gets access to usage data – something the company is always keen to get its hands on – and further reinforces Alexa’s leading position in the growing smart home market.
News of the Safeco Field deployment comes soon after it came to light that Alexa would be featured in smart lighting technology from IKEA and GE, as well as a smart thermostat from Toronto-based Ecobee.
