Apple May Be Developing iPad Stylus

Apple Aims at Privacy ConcernsApple will probably release a stylus accessory for its upcoming iPad Pro, according to an AppleInsider article by Katie Marsal. The prediction is based largely on speculation from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who Marsal calls a “well-placed industry analyst with a strong track record in predicting the company’s future product plans.”

According to the article, Kuo’s prediction comes mostly from his analysis of Apple’s patent activity. He thinks the accessory will probably come out in the second quarter of 2015, and that it will be relatively simple in its technology, and will not be packaged along with the iPad but will be sold as a separate standalone item. In the long-term, though, it could spur the development of new applications catered to its capabilities, and more advanced versions could be released further down the line in turn.

Apple’s patents have come under a lot of scrutiny from industry watchers over the last little while. There was some recent excitement over a new patent indicating that the company is developing a system to sync users’ biometric Touch ID information in the cloud; but on a somewhat less celebratory note, speculation about Apple’s patent-filing with respect to wearable camera technology had negative consequences for perceived potential future rivals in that field. As a giant in the high-end consumer IT field – and a secretive one at that – the company’s every little movement causes tremors in the industry.
