Tokyo-based Chincotech is getting ready to start trial field tests of a biometric authentication solution that it says is 99.9 percent accurate.
The system combines voice and 3D facial recognition for user authentication via mobile devices. It attained its high accuracy rate in lab tests, with Chincotech now preparing field tests with two unnamed banking institutions, scheduled to run this October.
In a statement announcing the solution, Chincotech Head Software Development Engineer Paul Rashford said “we are confident the algorithms will be able to cope with the demands of testing within a live environment and anticipate no drop on the accuracy rates of 99.9% we have consistently achieved in the lab.”
The company says it is aiming to launch its solution on Android and iOS device in early 2018. Given that Samsung’s S8 devices come with facial and iris recognition, and Apple’s next iPhone is expected to feature built-in infrared facial recognition, it stands to further expand the availability of contactless mobile authentication options for users.
