Xiaomi’s new Mi 4S smartphone features biometric technology from Fingerprint Cards and Precise Biometrics.
The new device is essentially an upgraded version of Xiaomi’s popular Mi 4 smartphone. Like the company’s big new flagship smartphone, the Mi5, the Mi 4S features fingerprint scanning based on Precise Biometrics’ Precise BioMatch Mobile algorithm software; but whereas the Mi5 uses an FPC1245 sensor, the Mi 4S features the FPC1035.
It’s the same sensor model used in Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 3 smartphone, which launched last autumn. Xiaomi is evidently pleased with the technology from both companies, and it isn’t their only happy customer, with FPC sensors running on Precise BioMatch Mobile having been integrated in a diverse range of smartphones over the past several months.
While the Mi5 will likely offer the more high-profile showcase for this technology, the Mi 4S could reach a large consumer base with its more modest price. In both cases, FPC and Precise Biometrics will reach more end users and solidify their strong positions in the mobile biometrics market.
