Huawei Focuses on Fingerprints in Honor 7 Marketing

June 15, 2015

Huawei Fosucses on Fingerprints in Honor 7 Marketing

A new Huawei smartphone is in the pipeline for the end of the month. The company has announced that its flagship Honor 7 will hit the market on June 30th.

The announcement came by way of a poster image uploaded to the company’s official Weibo account. The poster prominently depicts fingerprint imagery, which heavily implies that the device will include fingerprint biometric capabilities – most likely in the form of a rear-facing sensor, as recent leaks have suggested.

Rumours have also suggested that the phone will be released in two different versions, one standard and the other premium. If true, Huawei may be emulating the strategies of high-end rivals Apple and, more recently, Samsung, whose Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge smartphones came out earlier this year.

Huawei is also following suit in including fingerprint biometric capabilities, which are increasingly common on smartphones and will likely become standard within a few years. It’s a timely move, considering that a number of mPayment platforms debuting this year will use biometrics as the basis for payment authentication, and the forthcoming Android M operating system will feature native fingerprint biometric capabilities via API.
