IDEX Introduces New Flexible Fingerprint Sensor For Smart Cards

June 23, 2017

IDEX has announced a new flexible, low-power fingerprint sensor designed for integration into NFC smart cards.

IDEX Introduces New Flexible Fingerprint Sensor For Smart CardsIn a statement announcing the new solution, the company asserts that it’s already “sampling with a European top-tier card integrator.” The company also reports that it is seeing “strong interest” from other organizations, particularly Asia-based card integrators, and that it expects further sampling among such clients in Q3 of this year.

The sensor’s announcement comes soon after IDEX technology was revealed to be in play in Mastercard’s new biometric payment card, which is currently in a trialing stage. It also comes after this week’s announcements from rival NEXT Biometrics that it was ready to put its own flexible fingerprint sensors into mass production, and that it had received a major order for its new A2 ASIC chip.

IDEX says that its sensor “is specifically designed for proven standard mass production processes,” and that it will be ready to enter mass production in the latter half of this year.
