ImageWare Announces Patent Approval in Canada, Australia

ImageWare Announces Patent Approval in Canada, Australia
ImageWare’s biometric platform supports many modalities including iris, retina, face, finger, palm, hand geometry, voice, signature, and even DNA.

Identity management solutions provider ImageWare Systems, Inc. has received patent approval in Canada and Australia for its multimodal biometric ID platform, the company has announced. The patents are for its IWS Biometric Engine, and complement a previous patent award in the US.

The platform is basically a highly scalable biometric ID management system. It’s both algorithm independent and hardware agnostic, and can be used as a web-based system or integrated into another application via its SDK. The overall thrust is to provide a versatile and adaptable platform for government and commercial deployments, and at a potentially huge scale: In a statement, ImageWare SEO Jim Miller said the platform “offers users customizable security solutions to support population databases of unlimited sizes, as well as a wide variety of biometric types.” Those modalities include iris, retina, face, finger, palm, hand geometry, voice, signature, and even DNA.

The patent approvals may come as particularly welcome news as ImageWare continues to progress through a transition period, forging promising new partnerships that are expected to reap major payoffs down the line. Given the potential scope and breadth of applications for its IWS Biometric Engine, the company now appears to have some major business opportunities, depending on how it’s able to market the platform now that it has these new patents to protect its intellectual property.
