iPhone 6 Release Date Possibly Leaked

June 26, 2014

“German publication ApfelPage has reported that Deutsche Telekom has begun to use the iPhone 6 street date as an incentive to get customers to extend their contracts.”

The speculation is buzzing once again on the topic of Apple smartphones, but this time it’s not so much about new features, it’s about timing. Get out your calendars, it it looks like September 19, 2014, is going to be the launch of the new iPhone 6.

German publication ApfelPage has reported that Deutsche Telekom has begun to use the iPhone 6 street date as an incentive to get customers to extend their contracts. Representatives are apparently calling customers and telling them that September 19 will mark the new Apple release.

Though still unofficial (as it will likely remain all summer), this release date fits into Apple’s pattern of late September to early October product launches.

In terms of mobile identity, this September is gearing up to be another landmark year in smartphone biometrics. Last year, Apple introduced the Touch ID fingerprint sensor on the iPhone 5S (also launched on the third Friday in September), sparking the mainstream adoption of consumer biometric logical access control.

At the most recent WWDC, Apple teased what it has planned for this coming generation of iProducts, throwing a ton of support behind the sapphire fingerprint sensor by opening it up for third-party developer use. The demonstration featured a banking application, Mint.com, being logged-in to with the touch of a finger.

At least one of the coming mobiles will feature Touch ID, but pervasive rumors would have you believe that every 2014 device released by Apple that isn’t an iPod (meaning two iPhones, an iPad Air and an iPad mini) will have the now-iconic home button activation rings that signal biometric sensors.
