The Lockheed Martin Cyber Security Alliance, an initiative that brings a number of companies together under the roof of the NextGen Cyber Innovation and Technology Center to collaborate on innovations in defense, announced today that FireEye, Red Hat and Splunk have joined its ranks.
Each of the three new members brings its own unique set of solutions to the collaborative environment Lockheed Martin has set up. Real-time threat protection courtesy of FireEye’s virtual machine-based security platform, Red Hat’s wide range of open source software and middleware solutions, and Splunk’s big data indexing offerings will all be converging in the collaborative space.
Lockheed Martin’s goal is to provide end-to-end security solutions by facilitating this collaboration between technologists and customers. As Charlie Croom, vice president, Cyber Security Solutions at Lockheed Martin Information Systems & Global Solutions puts it: “The addition of three market-leading companies in the cyber security and data analytics marketplace will help us meet the challenges of today’s constantly evolving cyber threats using an intelligence-driven approach.”
FireEye, Red Hat and Splunk will be joining an alliance that also includes APC by Schneider Electric, ArcSight, CA, Cisco, Citrix, Dell, EMC Corporation and its RSA security division, HP, Intel, Juniper Networks, McAfee, Microsoft, NetApp, RSA, Symantec, Trustwave, Verizon and VMware.
“A security approach that leverages a community is an essential in today’s cyber landscape,” says FireEye founder and CTO Ashar Aziz. “Cyber attacks are a daily reality for many organizations and by pooling resources and intelligence, enterprises can help gain an upper hand.”
The kind of collaboration represented by the Lockheed Martin is something that is becoming very popular in the security arena. The Tabula Rasa Consortium, which is funded by the European Union, leverages its many companies and researchers in biometric spoofing research and standards organizations like the FIDO Alliance thrive on cooperation.
