Watching the Watches, Watching The Internet of Things
This week we learned a little bit more about the highly priced Apple Watch Edition -specifically how Apple intends on catering to its buyers – while also reporting on a newly patented method of two-factor smartwatch authentication from Samsung. Amazon took steps in the direction of IoT enabled commerce and IBM announced its intention to invest $3 billion in the Internet of Things over the next five years.

Smartphones and Authenticating on Them
This week’s smartphone news was largely dominated by fingerprint authentication. Fingerprint Cards announced yet another major order of its FPC1025 sensors, which will be used in Chinese smartphones, and both Asus and OnePlus made headlines as news surfaced regarding fingerprint authentication on each of their respective upcoming flagship handsets.
Outside of fingerprints, Apple received approval for a mobile facial recognition patent and an ultra-low cost mobile from Samsung also made headlines.
Health and Finance
In terms of healthcare, this week we learned how biometrics are going to fit into the conversation at HIMSS 2015, a medication app chose biometrics to help keep users on track with prescriptions and we reported on how one company believes mobile healthcare will help educate the doctors of the future.
Moving on to the world of finance, Cartes America announced that MasterCard will be hosting a panel at this year’s smart cards event, Vodaphone chose PIN security for its mPayment solution and Daon was recognized for its commitment to the credit union industry.
