NEXT Biometrics is celebrating a major milestone with its announcement this week that it has now shipped three million fingerprint sensors in total.
In a statement, NEXT CEO Ritu Favre said the achievement helps to demonstrate “NEXT’s ability to mass produce high quality, mass market robust sensors at what has become very high yield rates.” The company highlighted its ability to mass produce flexible fingerprint sensors in particular earlier this year – thanks to a partnership with display maker Innolux – in anticipation of the rapid emergence of biometric smart card market.
Elaborating on NEXT’s current momentum, Favre pointed to expansion not just in smart cards but also government ID and access control, asserting that the number of projects across these areas “is steadily growing, showing a stronger than ever interest in the NEXT technology.”
Meanwhile, NEXT is also pursuing notebook applications of its fingerprint sensor technology, according to the company’s last fiscal update; and given that biometric sensors may be growing in popularity on such computer devices, there appears to be an opportunity for NEXT to look for solid prospects in this area, as well.
