Fingerprint Integration
Fingerprint Cards marked a milestone last week, announcing its first sensor integration on a handset from an Indian OEM. The fingerprint sensor manufacturer also announced a new integration with QiKU, bringing its technology to the low-cost end of the smartphone spectrum. Fingerprint Future
The fingerprint news went beyond mobile deployments last week, with university researchers announcing that they have successfully tested the ‘MasterPrint’ hypothesis, finding results that underline the importance of liveness detection now that consumer grade biometrics are becoming ubiquitous. Two stories also had us talking about in-display fingerprint scanning on future smartphones. A new report gave insight into struggles Apple is allegedly having integrating its Touch ID access solution into the screen of the upcoming iPhone 8. On a more positive note, fingerprint biometrics company CrucialTec won a patent for its own in-display solution: a transparent fingerprint sensor.

The numbers were in last week on the Samsung Galaxy S8’s pre-order success. The multimodal biometric flagship smartphone is performing better than expected, which is good news for Samsung, which is rebounding from the Galaxy Note7 recall of 2016. Samsung’s smartwatch received an update last week too, and an executive from the company was elected as the president of the Car Connectivity Consortium.

New reports suggest that the long awaited LG Pay mobile wallet is heading to the LG G6 smartphone in June, along side a facial recantation enabling update.
