Samsung Settles Dispute with Korean Theater Chain, Reviving mPayment Support

December 4, 2017

“…Samsung says its platform is now accepted almost everywhere in its home country, except for some gas stations, bus services, and vending machines.”

Samsung has cleared things up with South Korea’s biggest movie theater chain, and the latter is once again accepting Samsung Pay payments.Samsung Settles Dispute with Korean Theater Chain, Reviving mPayment Support

CJ CGV initially started accepting Samsung Pay at its launch, but as The Korea Bizwire reports, the support for Samsung’s mobile payments platform was later halted after the companies came to differences over points and discounts. Now, apparently having sorted out these details, the companies are friends again, with CJ CGV accepting Samsung Pay at its theaters, and the companies negotiating over enabling Samsung Pay for online orders.

It’s a small but important bit of patchwork for Korea’s close-knit business community. With this matter sorted, Samsung says its platform is now accepted almost everywhere in its home country, except for some gas stations, bus services, and vending machines.

In other words, Samsung Pay is very popular on its home turf, with Samsung having reported near the end of August that two years after its launch, Samsung Pay had processed about $8.77 billion in transactions in South Korea, and quadrupled its growth in its second year.
