Samsung Pay to Launch in Brazil Next Week

July 15, 2016

Samsung Pay will launch in Brazil next week, Samsung has announced. The mPayment platform will go live in the country on July 19th.

Samsung Pay to Launch in Brazil Next WeekBrazil will be the first country in South America to support the service, joining international supporters Australia, China, Puerto Rico, Singapore, Spain, and the US. For its part, Samsung Pay will be the first of the major mPayment platforms to launch in Brazil, beating Android Pay and Apple Pay to the punch.

Samsung has high hopes for the Brazilian market. In a statement announcing the service’s Brazil launch, the company cited research from the Federation of Brazilian Banks indicating that between 2014 and 2015, mobile banking rose 138 percent in the country.

With Samsung Pay having launched in Australia, Singapore, and Spain in just the last couple of months, the mPayment service seems to be enjoying some momentum in its international expansion efforts. Commenting on the Brazil debut, Samsung executive André Varga said the country “will pave the way for the region’s adoption of Samsung Pay.”
