Diebold Nixdorf and Paynet have together won the Gold Award for Innovation at the 2017 ATM & Cash Innovation Europe Conference.
The award was bestowed in recognition of pioneering project that is now a decade old – a system allowing a bank customer to transfer cash to an unbanked individual. Essentially, the account holder would send an authorization code to the recipient’s phone, and the recipient could then use that code at an ATM in order to withdraw the intended funds.
It’s a long way away from the contemporary technologies that Diebold Nixdorf is now pioneering. The company announced this week a system developed with Samsung SDS America that allows bank customers to complete ATM withdrawals using a smartphone app and biometric facial recognition via the smartphone’s camera, an innovative system that points to the kind of cardless ATM banking toward which the industry appears to be heading.
Commenting on the new award in a statement, Diebold Nixdorf EMEA SVP Christian Weisser said, “We were quick to realize that attractive and useful financial services can be delivered by integrating ATM and mobile technology.”
Diebold Nixdorf and Samsung SDS are showing off their new solution at this week’s Digital Banking conference in Texas.
