Ohio’s Knox Community Hospital will be serving as the initial deployment site for Allscripts Professional electronic health records (EHR) that now integrate BIO-key’s fingerprint recognition technology. BIO-key announced today that it has been certified by Allscripts Professional, which grants access to EHRs that feature open architecture to a wide base of American hospitals and physicians, to provide fingerprint authentication security for the mobile medical solution.
Electronic health records dramatically accelerate the diagnosis of patients, allowing for a mobile device to request and access all relevant documents to a current patient, giving doctors and physicians the ability to have patient history, images and other useful items in the palm of their hand. Due to the sensitive nature of this material, high security measures must be in place.
As one can expect from this kind of mobile integration, the inclusion of BIO-key technology will further streamline the increasingly EHR dependent workplace, eliminating the need for passwords, PINs, or security tokens in favor of simple and secure fingerprint user authentication. This is the third Allscripts EHR solution with which BIO-key has integrated, and according to BIO-key CEO Mike DePasquale it’s the most important.
According to DePasquale, the majority of Allscripts customers use Professional for their EHR needs. He goes on to further endorse the certification: “There are also indications we can launch our authentication solutions faster with Pro customers because the evaluation and decision making process is less complex.”
