MWC 2017: Biometric Security Featured Among OT’s New Payment Card Solutions

March 1, 2017

“…the company’s F-Code is perhaps its showstopper when it comes to payment cards. It features a built-in fingerprint sensor, designed to entirely replace the PIN.”

Oberthur Technologies is showing off its payment card solutions at this week’s Mobile World Congress, including a card with embedded biometric security.MWC 2017: Biometric Security Featured Among OT's New Payment Card Solutions

One new offering is OT Motion Code, a payment card featuring a dynamic CVV that changes each hour. Another, Blink, lets the user dynamically switch between payment accounts – debit, credit, foreign currency, etc. – by tapping a small button embedded in the card; one of five tiny LED lights will glow in order to indicate which payment account is currently selected.

But the company’s F-Code is perhaps its showstopper when it comes to payment cards. It features a built-in fingerprint sensor, designed to entirely replace the PIN. When a user makes a payment, she needs only to hold her finger on the sensor in order to confirm the transaction.

It’s an area of increasing interest to biometrics specialists like IDEX and NEXT Biometrics, not to mention financial services organizations eager to offer their customers the latest in sophisticated security for payments. And with physical prototypes on hand, OT is likely generating some substantial interest as it shows off its latest payment card products at Mobile World Congress.
