Fingerprint Scanners Markedly Increase Mobile User Satisfaction: Report

April 22, 2016

Integrating advanced features such as fingerprint sensors into smartphones can significantly improve user satisfaction, according to new research from J.D. Power. The market research and strategy company detailed these results in its tenth annual U.S. Wireless Smartphone Satisfaction Study.

Fingerprint Scanners Markedly Increase Mobile User Satisfaction: ReportThe study was carried out between September 2015 and February 2016, and surveyed 11,693 smartphone users. In addition to some notable findings on users’ enthusiasm for wireless charging, the study found that the 62 percent of respondents who use smartphones featuring fingerprint sensors generally reported high levels of satisfaction thanks to the convenient security of phone access based on fingerprint scan. J.D. Power reports that overall satisfaction with these devices was markedly higher than that of customers using devices without fingerprint biometrics.

It’s also worth noting that the study found overall satisfaction levels highest among Apple device users, and while this is likely due to numerous factors, Apple was the major smartphone maker that really pioneered mobile biometrics with its Touch ID system. Such features are increasingly commonplace, and will soon be almost standard features of mobile devices, which should help to ensure that all kinds of smartphone users are increasingly satisfied with their devices.
