FPC Sensor Integrated With MeReal Biometrics’ Smart Card

June 3, 2016

“This latest smart card integration follows quickly after another announced this week, with the FPC1020 sensor being used in a new smart card from Kona I.”

Fingerprint Cards has announced another major smart card integration for its fingerprint biometrics technology. Its FPC1011 sensor is being used in the MeReal Biometrics “computer on a card”, launched at this week’s RISE tech conference.

FPC Sensor Integrated With MeReal Biometrics' Smart CardIt’s an advanced smart card with a range of potential applications, from healthcare to banking. A biometric sensor embedded in the card is used to activate it for use, and then the card automatically shuts down until the next time it’s needed. And that mechanism is regulated through FPC’s fingerprint sensor.

This latest smart card integration follows quickly after another announced this week, with the FPC1020 sensor being used in a new smart card from Kona I. This all reflects FPC’s new focus on the smart card market, an area in which it is seeking to expand aggressively from its strong position in the area of mobile biometrics; to this end, and with an eye to future potential markets as well, the company’s board of directors has also just appointed a new CEO, who will take the helm this August.
