Fingerprint Cards Launches FPC1300 Series Sensors

FPC1300 series sensors are designed to be very thin and to use very little power.

Having announced its intentions to explore new market areas beyond mobile biometrics near the start of this year, Fingerprint Cards is now taking a major step into the smart cards arena with the announcement of a new line of sensors designed specifically for smart card applications.

Fingerprint Cards Launches FPC1300 Series Sensors

It’s called the FPC1300 series, and its sensors are designed to be very thin and to use very little power. They also feature FPC OneTouch technology enabling what the company calls “fast wake-up authentication”.

In a statement announcing the new sensor line, FPC asserted that it has “several strategic partners” lined up for its entry into the market, which it says “is expected to take off in 2017 with volumes coming in 2018.” Christian Fredrikson, FPC’s recently appointed CEO, framed the development within the company’s broader strategy, calling it “a natural step in our continuous broadening of our product portfolio anchored in the needs and demands of the market and end users.”

FPC also indicated that its FPC1300 sensors have already been integrated into smart cards from Kona-I and Zwipe, the latter of which recently welcomed former FPC CEO Jörgen Lantto to its Board of Directors.
