Gemalto Biometric Payment Card Trials Feature Zwipe Technology

January 5, 2018

“The company also emphasized that the Bank of Cyprus project is just one of “multiple upcoming pilots in 2018″ for Gemalto’s solution – which is of course good news for Zwipe.”

Zwipe technology is going to lend a helping hand in Gemalto‘s biometric payment card pilot project with the Bank of Cyprus and other such trials to come.

Gemalto Biometric Payment Card Trials Feature Zwipe TechnologyGemalto unveiled its Bank of Cyprus project this week, announcing that the bank’s customers would soon get access to dual interface biometric payment cards that replace PIN entry with fingerprint scans during transactions. Now, in an announcement of its own, Zwipe has revealed that the payment card “utilizes Zwipe’s unique energy harvesting capacity and biometric engine”, allowing for biometrically confirmed transactions without the need for battery power.

The company also emphasized that the Bank of Cyprus project is just one of “multiple upcoming pilots in 2018” for Gemalto’s solution – which is of course good news for Zwipe. CEO Kim Humborstad asserted that “receiving Gemalto’s support in bringing our technology to market is a big step for our organization,” adding, “They have an expansive customer base in every corner of the world and a leading industrialization capacity and know-how required for such innovative products.”

The collaboration should help both firms to establish a strong footing ahead of an anticipated boom for the biometric payment cards market over the year ahead, especially as major financial services organizations like Mastercard seek to introduce such solutions to the mass market.
