Hyundai Connects Echo’s Alexa to Genesis Sedan

August 19, 2016

“Hyundai’s new skill allows drivers of its Genesis G90 sedan to do things like start the engine or control the car’s air conditioning by voice command.”

Hyundai has teamed up with Amazon to let Echo users interact with their cars from the comfort of their living rooms.

Hyundai Connects Echo's Alexa to Genesis SedanEcho is, of course, Amazon’s smart home hub device. Users interact with it via its Alexa AI assistant, which is able to advance in its capabilities over time as third-party companies develop new ‘skills’ for it.

Hyundai’s new skill allows drivers of its Genesis G90 sedan to do things like start the engine or control the car’s air conditioning by voice command. And, as USA Today reports, it’s one of the ways in which Hyundai is trying to define its new Genesis line of luxury cars, so it could find its way into future devices, too.

Hyundai isn’t alone in trying to connect its cars to the smart home. BMW recently announced a new mobile app with similar functionality, and says that it will be adapted into a new Alexa skill later this year. Hyundai’s system is already live, though, so the company is a step ahead in this emerging trend.
