LG V30’s Facial and Voice Recognition Powered by Sensory Tech

“Sensory says the facial recognition technology performs authentication in less than a second and is 99.999 percent accurate, and that it operates entirely on the device, helping to ensure that the user’s biometric data is kept safe.”

The facial and voice recognition capabilities of LG’s newest flagship smartphone are powered by technology from Sensory, Inc., the latter has revealed.LG V30's Facial and Voice Recognition Powered by Sensory Tech It’s the company’s TrulySecure Facial Recognition solution that allows V30 users to unlock the device just by looking at it, while its TrulySecure Speaker Verification system lets user activate devices with a wake word and authenticate just by speaking.

The technology is part of a tripartite biometric capability on the new smartphone, which also supports fingerprint scanning thanks to a Fingerprint Cards sensor. Sensory says the facial recognition technology performs authentication in less than a second and is 99.999 percent accurate, and that it operates entirely on the device, helping to ensure that the user’s biometric data is kept safe. Earlier this year, the company also asserted that an upgrade to its TrulySecure technology had nearly eliminated the possibility of spoofing.

In a statement announcing the technology’s integration into the V30, Parks Associates Director Jennifer Kent highlighted the facial recognition capability in particular. “With major smartphone brands rolling out facial recognition as a key security measure, both awareness of and trust in this feature is expected to rise in 2018,” she said, likely referring to Apple’s anticipated support for facial recognition in its forthcoming new iPhone device.

Sensory, Inc. says its facial recognition technology is not just being used in the V30, but has also been incorporated into LG’s Q6 and G6 smartphones as well.
