Qualcomm Bringing FPC Sensors to Low- and Mid-Range Snapdragon Microprocessors

More specifically, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 210, 212, 425, 427, 430, and 435 microprocessors will integrate FPC1028 touch sensors. In a statement announcing the partnership, FPC described the FPC1028 as “the mobile industry’s smallest and most affordable fingerprint sensor optimized for front and rear integration, thereby supporting flexible industrial design.”

Commenting on the deal, FPC CEO Christian Fredrikson said FPC’s management expects it to “rapidly increase the fingerprint sensor attach rate in low- and mid-tier mobile devices worldwide,” adding that the first devices to feature the technology are anticipated to hit the market in the second half of this year.

The news comes soon after the revelation that Precise Biometrics’ algorithm software is being used in Qualcomm’s newly announced ultrasonic fingerprint sensors. Precise Biometrics is a longtime partner of FPC’s, with the companies combined technologies having been used in a range of mobile devices.
