Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon 835 processor is powering Samsung’s newly announced Galaxy Note8 smartphone, the company has announced.
Biometric security is an important component of the platform. In a statement announcing its integration into the Note8, Qualcomm highlighted the Snapdragon 835’s “enhanced security for biometrics and device attestation” thanks to its Qualcomm Mobile Security platform. The Note8 is poised to become one of the most sophisticated consumer devices on the market with respect to biometric technology, thanks to its use of both fingerprint and iris recognition for user authentication.
Qualcomm’s Haven security technology also played a key role in last year’s Note7 device from Samsung, which was intended to pioneer mobile iris scanning but ultimately saw a total recall due to a safety hazard with its battery.
Qualcomm’s system-on-a-chip solution also brings to the table a powerful GPU supporting 360-degree VR media, Qualcomm’s Aqstic audio codec and aptX HD technology for Bluetooth audio, and the Snapdragon X16 LTE modem, among other features.
