US Bank is taking advantage of Visa’s Geolocation Service to help interested customers avoid credit card issues while traveling.
It’s not uncommon for a cardholder to get declined, or to be contacted by their bank, if they suddenly make a big purchase in unusual location, since this can be considered suspicious activity indicating that a card has been stolen or compromised. US Bank’s Visa-developed system could prevent that kind of thing. For users who opt in, the system will use the location data of their phone to match it against purchases, helping to verify that the user is present wherever purchases are being made.
The system is available to US Bank FlexPerks Visa cardholders and can be activated via the FlexPerks mobile app, and cardholders with US Bank’s Elan partner financial organizations can use it too, through the Elan app. Ultimately, US Bank aims to make the feature to all its customers through the US Bank mobile app.
It’s another example of US Bank’s welcoming approach to innovative technology, with this geolocation feature complimenting other security systems like Touch ID login for its mobile app.
