Wells Fargo is Latest to Support Face Unlock on Pixel 4

June 9, 2020

The list of apps that support Face Unlock on the Pixel 4 keeps growing at a steady pace, with the Wells Fargo app recently joining in as the latest to accommodate Google’s take on biometric facial recognition for authentication.

Wells Fargo is Latest to Support Face Unlock on Pixel 4

Face Unlock was first introduced with the launch of the Pixel 4 in November of 2019 as Google’s answer to Apple’s successful Face ID 3D facial recognition system.

Using the new Soli radar sensor chip to detect when a user is close by and when the phone is being lifted, Face Unlock was received fairly well, though criticism arose due to the limited number of supported apps at the time.

This changed late last year when Google introduced its new ‘Biometric API’, raplacing the older ‘BiometricPrompt’ API and opening the door for third party developers to begin integrating their apps with Face Unlock.

As for Wells Fargo app users, 9to5Google reports that though upgrading to the latest version of the app — which is available now through the Google Play Store — should initiate a prompt to enable the feature, it can be a bit picky with regards to when it appears for users who are logging in after updating.

Prior to Wells Fargo gaining support for Face Unlock, password manager Myki was the newest app to join the list with an update last month.
