Iris
Last week Microsoft made a big splash in the biometric smartphone scene with the announcement of its two new Lumia smartphones, each of which features a built in infrared iris scanner. That most coveted of mobile biometric modalities remained in the news with Toshiba announcing its own iris scanner designed for use in mobile devices.

Fingerprint
Microsoft made fingerprint news last week too with the launch of its Surface Pro 4 Type Cover, which sports a fingerprint sensor. Fingerprint Cards (FPC) released a preliminary Q3 report, and business is predictably booming for the Swedish sensor manufacture. TRAIS introduced a transparent fingerprint sensor last week while we reported on a fingerprint protected door lock that also features a bluetooth enabled remote control option.

In mCommerce news Apple Pay scored four big new supporters as People’s United Bank announced Touch ID functionality on its mobile app. Samsung went on the record insisting that its Samsung Pay mobile wallet is safe in the wake of the LoopPay hack earlier this year. PayPal, meanwhile, was named one of the world’s top 100 brands.

Internet of Things was back in the news last week with a new report from Gartner touting the importance of cybersecurity professionals in the future of the machine-to-machine network. Gemalto, in the meantime, announced an IoT heavy itinerary for this week’s LicensingLive! 2015 conference in Cupertino, California.

FIDO
The FIDO Alliance made headlines last week with #TwoFactorTuesday, a joint, Google-hosted effort with the National Cyber Security Alliance to promote two factor security. Alliance member HYPR also made the news with comments on how tokenization could have mitigated damage done by the recent OPM hack, and FIDO also announced its latest government member: the German Federal Office for Information Security.
