WPI Orders FPC Sensors, Cements Trend

New Asia-Based Order for FPC Sensors Cements TrendFingerprint Cards (FPC) has received a major new order for its fingerprint sensors. Placed by World Peace Industrial Group (or WPI), the order is valued at 268 MSEK.

The order is for four different sensors: FPC1025, FPC1035, FPC1145 and FPC1155; and they’re expected to be delivered over the latter half of this year. The sensors are all going to be used in smartphones, and in a press release announcing the order, FPC CEO Jörgen Lantto said that it is further “evidence of the growing interest from smartphone OEMs in integrating touch fingerprint sensors in their devices.”

WPI is one of FPC’s main distributors in Asia, and of course the smartphones employing the sensors in this new order are all going to be made in the region. That helps to cement an already solid trend that has seen continued interest in FPC’s technology from Asia-based smartphone makers – a trend that has resulted in very good business for the company. It was only this week that FPC announced its fingerprint sensors have been incorporated into new devices from Huawei and Meizu, for example; and we’ve seen many similar previous orders over the course of this year.

Looking ahead, Lantto sees cause for further enthusiasm: “It is clear that 2015 is the year of the major breakthrough in the use of touch fingerprint sensors in smartphones,” he said, and indeed if 2015 can overtake 2014’s status as a “watershed year” for the industry, it should lead to some huge successes for companies like FPC.
