Recently, Zwipe AS – maker of the adoption barrier breaking Zwipe biometric access card – announced that is has joined the Fast IDentity Online (FIDO) Alliance.
The news followed in the wake of Zwipe’s successful public appearance during ISC West earlier this month, where company CEO Kim Kristian Humborstadt was surprised at the overwhelming amount of interest the physical access control solution received.
“As we transition out of ‘start-up mode,’ the next natural step was to join standards-setting organizations,” says Humborstadt. “Of course, our first thought was the FIDO Alliance.”
FIDO is a consortium, now well into is second year of existence, that is dedicated to fostering interoperability among authentication services through technology sharing and the development of specifications.
“Right now, in 2014, we are seeing mobile devices, wearable technologies and biometrics converging across all industries, from access control to banking to retail,” says Humborstadt. “Zwipe is well-positioned to become an integral player in what is becoming the hottest industry across the globe.”
The Zwipe biometric access card is a physical access control solution that combines the easy convenience of contactless card security solutions with the authentication strength that comes with fingerprint biometrics. The card was demonstrated at ISC West earlier this month and the next entry in this product line – dubbed the Evolutuon – will be released this coming summer.
