Zwipe Unveils Biometric Payment Card

April 20, 2017

“Zwipe’s new smart card can operate via EMV or on a swipe basis, and the company says it meets ISO standards. It features a built-in fingerprint sensor and encrypts and stores that biometric information on the card itself, and it does not require a battery to operate.”

Zwipe is finally unveiling its biometric payment card technology to the public at this week’s Seamless Asia payments expo in Singapore.

The company has been busily working on the technology for some time, but has so far kept it largely under wraps, demoing the technology in private pilot programs. Its closed-door demonstrations have evidently proven persuasive to the two multinational card makers that reportedly partnered with Zwipe at the end of last year, however; and Zwipe is now ready to put the technology in the spotlight.

Zwipe’s new smart card can operate via EMV or on a swipe basis, and the company says it meets ISO standards. It features a built-in fingerprint sensor and encrypts and stores that biometric information on the card itself, and it does not require a battery to operate. As such it should prove to be a formidable entry in an emerging market that has proven increasingly busy.

And its appeal could stretch even further: Commenting on the Seamless Asia demos in a statement, Zwipe CEO Kim Humborstad suggested that it offers “a more secure and user friendly experience with applications that go beyond cards.”
