Zwipe Has Received Its First Orders For Its Biometric Payment Card

June 7, 2017

Zwipe‘s new biometric payment card solution has officially entered into its commercialization phase with the announcement of two new orders.

Zwipe Has Received Its First Orders For Its Biometric Payment CardThe company first unveiled its new offering at the recent Seamless Asia payments expo, where it highlighted the payment cards’ EMV functionality, ISO compliance, and its ability to operate without a battery. And, of course, the cards’ embedded fingerprint sensors, which have now been revealed to be originating from mobile biometrics specialist Fingerprint Cards.

In a statement announcing the new orders, Zwipe declined to name the two clients in question, referring to them only as “an undisclosed customer in Asia” and “a global tier-1 card manufacturer.” But the company did indicate that it expects the clients to proceed with deployments of the biometric smart cards in Europe and Asia in the latter half of this year.

News of Zwipe’s orders arrives soon after Mastercard revealed that it has been trialing biometric payment cards developed in collaboration with Safran Identity & Security (now OT-Morpho) and IDEX, suggesting that the biometric smart card market is really heating up.
