Users of Pebble smartwatches are about to get a little more control over their devices; Nuance Communications voice command technology is coming to Pebble Smartwatches.
It’s available immediately for the Pebble Time and Pebble Time Steel devices, and on November 8th it will come to American users of the Pebble Time Round. The integration will allow users to respond to texts and emails simply by speaking, and more applications could be on the way. That’s because Pebble has developed a Dictation API, allowing third party developers to work on integrating the technology into their own Pebble programs. The technology is available for Pebble devices on both iOS and Android systems.
In a blog post announcing the integrations, Nuance’s Scott Taylor explained that in the world of wearables, the “simplicity of the human voice becomes immeasurably valuable” as a means of interaction, and extrapolated that to the broader Internet of Things. He’s right. Both Google and Apple have been investing heavily in voice-based systems, probably in recognition of their looming potential in these areas. And as a leading provider of voice interaction systems, Nuance will likely see more business opportunities along the lines of the Pebble integrations going forward.
