Switzerland-based Sunrise has announced a new digital document verification solution for iPhone and Android users.
Here’s how the Sunrise ID Checker works: When authentication is needed, a user is emailed a QR code, which can then be scanned by their smartphone. The customer then scans the front and back of an official ID document and takes a video selfie, and then provides a digital signature on the smartphone using a stylus or a finger. That completes the validation process, with the relevant documents immediately sent to the user’s ‘My Sunrise’ account.
In a statement announcing the solution, Sunrise emphasized the security and privacy processes in place to protect user data. Video selfies are deleted after a maximum of ten days, the company says, and no data is saved on the user’s device; meanwhile, the Sunrise Information Security Management System on the back end is ISO 27001 certified.
It’s one of many emerging solutions that leverage common smartphone technology for identity verification, with Jumio’s facial recognition and document reading solution being another prime example.
Sunrise’s solution is compatible with the iPhone 4s or later, or Android 5.0 or later.
