1Kosmos has achieved FIDO2 certification with its BlockID authentication solution. BlockID is a blockchain-based app that uses biometrics to verify someone’s identity.
Once installed, BlockID will grant physical and logical device access to a registered individual who is authenticated through the app. The solution does not require any additional hardware, and is compliant with the latest GDPR regulations, and the NIST’s 800-63-3 IAL3 guidelines.
According to 1Kosmos, the combination of blockchain and biometrics makes BlockID both impossible to spoof and impossible to hack, to the point that a cybercriminal could not beat the system even if a user handed them the proper credentials. The user’s personal information is encrypted, and BlockID is able to verify someone’s identity before conducting the biometric scan.
“BlockID adds tremendous value to the passwordless world by adding the immutable identity layer on top of authenticating tokens,” said 1Kosmos CTO Rohan Pinto. “This certification allows us to provide our customers safer, phishing-resistant methods and a better user experience enterprise wide.”
The FIDO Alliance established the FIDO2 protocols to help reduce the world’s reliance on password-based security. The standard has the support of virtually every major web browser, and has been recognized as an official W3C web standard. Meanwhile, the Alliance is preparing for its inaugural Authenticate conference, which will be hosted as a virtual event in November.
