“The aim is to allow users to access AfriDOKTA’s services – including video consultation with doctors over mobile devices or desktops – via biometric authentication, thanks to Smart Applications’ fingerprint scanning technology.”
AfriDOKTA, an African telemedicine solutions provider, has teamed up with East Africa-based Smart Applications International to trial its biometric health insurance services.
As a trial run, the companies have essentially combined their platforms, with Smart Applications’ 104 employees now on AfriDOKTA’s telemedicine system. The aim is to allow users to access AfriDOKTA’s services – including video consultation with doctors over mobile devices or desktops – via biometric authentication, thanks to Smart Applications’ fingerprint scanning technology.
In a statement announcing the collaboration, Smart Applications International Group Managing Director Harrison Muiru explained that the combined platform “improves members’ experience, ultimately reduces the cost of quality care, and fosters better medical insurance penetration.”
The companies say that their pilot study, which they call a Proof of Concept, will run for 30 days. If it proves successful, the two will extend their collaboration “for all East Africa health insurers to provide quality care with convenience on a digital platform.”
