Android Auto now has a new navigation feature: Google’s Waze.
Android Auto is, of course, Google’s car interface, available in a range of cars from major automakers like Audi, Ford, and Kia. While the system already supported navigation features, its integration of Waze should appeal to fans of the app, which offers navigation based on live, crowdsourced data from other users.
With its Android Auto integration, the feature will enable users to navigate using the car’s touch display and buttons on the dashboard and steering wheel, and to interact with the system via voice command.
It’s the latest development, if a somewhat peripheral one, in the auto sector’s ongoing software revolution, with car makers teaming up with IT giants to make their automotive systems smarter and more deeply integrated with other connected devices. And it could help Android users get where they’re going a little faster.
