Transport for London is a on a new track, promoting Android Pay in the UK with Mastercard.
With a new promotional offer, Mastercard customers who use their payment cards with Google’s mobile payment platform will be able to travel on TfL’s network for free every Monday during the month of October. Its reimbursements are capped at £30.50 per day, but for most commuters that should prove more than enough to get around.
The offer echoes similar promotions undertaken by Mastercard and TfL in support of Apple Pay last autumn and winter, with those campaigns also offering Apple Pay users free rides on Mondays. As Gizmodo’s Tom Pritchard points out, it seems that “Mastercard really wants people to pay for things with their phones,” and indeed, the financial services giant has also just issued a report indicating that mPayment appetites of consumers around the world.
There is one added twist to Mastercard’s campaign with Android Pay: Users can also get a free drink at Caffè Nero locations throughout England, Wales, and Scotland – also on Mondays, which should further help commuters adjust to the start of the working week.
