Animo has been selected by SPRIND, the German Federal Agency for Disruptive Innovation, as one of six teams to develop a prototype for the EU Digital Identity Wallet. The challenge is to create a digital identity wallet that is trustworthy, user-friendly, and universally applicable for users in Germany.
Animo plans to leverage its expertise in lower-level open-source technology and its practical experience in building digital identity applications with a UX focus.
The Dutch company says it will deliver the first phase of the EUDI project by the end of July, focusing on a mobile wallet that can securely receive and present a Personal Identity Document (PID) in SD-JWT VC and mDL formats. The wallet will be bound to hardware keys stored in the mobile device’s secure enclave, with trust managed through OpenID Federation.
The development will be entirely open source. Animo will extend the minimalistic Paradym Wallet to include the necessary capabilities for the EUDI Wallet, integrating with the German eID system. The project will use and expand Credo, a digital identity framework from the OpenWallet Foundation that Animo helps maintain, as the foundation for identity-related standards.
Animo will collaborate with other teams in phase one, including Sphereon.com, AUTHADA GmbH, Governikus, Ubique Innovation, and TICE Software. The group includes companies specializing in digital identity solutions, security technologies, and software development, including those with expertise in authentication, government digital services, and innovative app and web development.
