Taking Aim at APAC Market, FacePhi Launches Korean Subsidiary

May 29, 2019

“FacePhi has become one of the authentication industry’s great success stories over the last few years, thanks in large part to its selfie-based authentication solution…”

Spain-based biometric authentication specialist FacePhi is looking to dramatically extend its presence in the APAC market, announcing a new subsidiary headquartered in South Korea.

The aptly-named FacePhi APAC already has an office, located in the city of Pangyo, considered South Korea’s Silicon Valley. It’s being headed by Dongpyo Hong, the former President of CrucialTec USA, and the current Vice Chairman of the FIDO Alliance’s FIDO Korea Working Group. Dongpyo is also the founder and CEO of Global PD, a consulting firm focused on biometrics, FinTech, the Internet of Things, and mobile sensors.

FacePhi says Dongpyo has assembled a domestic team including marketing and biometric technology specialists, and that the FacePhi APAC office, located in the busy Work&All business center, will begin operations in June.

The APAC subsidiary’s launch comes after FacePhi issued its 2018 fiscal year update last month, in which the company detailed considerable increases in turnover and EBITDA. FacePhi has become one of the authentication industry’s great success stories over the last few years, thanks in large part to its selfie-based authentication solution; and the company’s launch last autumn of its more comprehensive inPhinite platform signaled its plans for greater expansion, with the new Korean office being a perhaps inevitable result.
