Apple’s New 8-Core MacBook Pro is Twice as Fast, Features Touch ID

Apple's New 8-Core MacBook Pro is Twice as Fast, Features Touch ID

Apple has upgraded its flagship MacBook Pro computers, announcing that the new 15-inch Pro will be the first MacBook with an 8-core Intel processor. The 8-core notebook will be twice as fast as the previous generation quad-core notebook, giving the laptops more utility as enterprise-level coding and rendering machines.

“Whether it’s college students mastering a course of study, developers building world-class apps or video editors creating feature films, we’re constantly amazed at what our customers do with their MacBook Pro,” said Tom Boger, Apple’s Senior Director of Mac Product Marketing.

The new MacBooks have been built with 8th and 9th generation Intel cores. The 13-inch model is a quad-core, while the 15-inch model offers 6 and 8-core options.

In addition to the more powerful core, the new MacBook Pro features macOS Mojave and a 500 nit Retina display. It also features Touch ID, making this yet one more indication that Apple is not net done with its fingerprint recognition platform. Barclays analysts recently predicted that Touch ID could make an iPhone comeback in 2020, while Apple announced a Touch ID autofill feature for the MacBook earlier this year and brought Touch ID to the MacBook Air in 2018.

The 13-inch MacBook Pro will retail for $1,799. The 15-inch model starts at $2,399.
