US Retailers Try Apple Pay Store Card Functionality

December 1, 2015

US Retailers Begin to Embrace Apple Pay Store Credit Cards Functionality“With Kohl’s having become the first to do so earlier this fall, JCPenney is now allowing some of its shoppers to upload their store cards to the mPayment app.”

US retailers are tentatively starting to try out Apple Pay’s new compatibility with store credit cards.

With Kohl’s having become the first to do so earlier this fall, JCPenney is now allowing some of its shoppers to upload their store cards to the mPayment app. It’s just a trial, though, with functionality only available at one store in Dallas Fort Worth in Texas. Still, JCPenney is aiming for a nationwide rollout next spring.

These are further expansions of the mPayment service’s functionality, building on last month’s development that saw American drugstore chain Walgreens offer Apple Pay support for its rewards program. Apple’s ultimate aim appears to be to have Apple Pay act as a full wallet replacement, integrating not only credit cards but rewards card and store credit cards, all in one digital package.

As it building this functionality, the company is also expanding the regional reach of its service, with Apple Pay having just launched in Canada, and on its way to other parts of the world soon, possibly even launching in China early next year.
