The Apple Watch is finally coming to a major big-box store. Starting August 7th, the devices will be sold from Best Buy retail outlets as well as the American chain’s online store.
The development represents a normalization, of sorts. After a very unusual rollout that eschewed the usual blockbuster lineups outside of Apple Stores, opting instead for sales via the Apple website and few posh shops in England, even those who were among the first to place their orders faced a long wait to get their smartwatches. While it was clear enough that demand exceeded supply, Apple’s refusal to discuss sales numbers coupled with rumors of a serious hardware defect led many analysts to believe that it was something of a bungled launch, or worse, that the smartwatch revolution wasn’t coming after all.
Apple Stores have had the devices in stock for several weeks now, though, and with Apple Watches joining their smartphone and tablet counterparts in Best Buy stores, things seem to be stabilizing. Moreover, according to a Reuters report, Apple CFO Luca Maestri has finally opened up a little about how sales have gone, asserting that they have surpassed Apple’s expectations and that the device is proving more popular than the iPhone and iPad had at their respective launches.
