The Apple Watch Hermès is now available for purchase online.
The luxury fashion brand’s version of Apple’s first smartwatch first launched last October, but was available only in select stores. Starting today, however, it can be ordered from Hermès’ and Apple’s websites.
Technologically, it’s the same old Apple Watch. But it features a custom watch face and three versions of Hermès’ leather bands, ranging in price from $1,100 to $1,500. The Hermès collaboration reflects Apple’s efforts market the Apple Watch as both a consumer electronics device and a luxury fashion item, with another major stab in this direction having been the Apple Watch Edition, a $10,000-plus, 18-karat gold-plated model of this same device.
It’s unclear how this strategy is faring, since Apple still hasn’t revealed sales figures for any models of the Apple Watch; but it’s evidently keen to keep trying to stoke interest in these luxury versions of the device, if this latest Hermès development is any indication. As for those Apple fans who are merely looking for more advanced technology, they’ll have to wait for the Apple Watch 2.
