When an idea as powerful as the post-password paradigm finds its way into the popular imagination it comes up against a number of obstacles. A lack of proper education on the topic aligns with worries of personal privacy, cost to implement and the daunting complexity of the subsequent deployments, and suddenly what we are left with is a surprising amount of resistance to what should be a no-brainer: easier to use and more secure online security solutions. Old habits are hard to break, and in this case it is important to have organizations dedicated to disrupting the status quo.
“Nok Nok Labs was created to disrupt current authentication methods, replacing cumbersome passwords and usernames that have become too difficult to use and manage with the growing diversity of devices and applications,” said Phillip Dunkelberger, CEO of Nok Nok Labs.
Nok Nok Labs is among the founding members of the FIDO Alliance, and is being awarded for its innovative attitude. Today the company announced that it has been selected as a SINET 16 Innovator for this year’s SINET Showcase 2013 event, being held next week (December 4th and 5th) in Washington D.C.
“Recognition from SINET is a huge validation of our strategy and vision as we see the need for more secure and simpler authentication in both the private and public sectors,” adds Dunkelberger.
Nok Nok Labs will be presenting a demonstration of its disruptive technology during the two day conference. Its client and server products leverage a new unified authentication method, enabling additional authentication factors – including biometrics – to create a strong verification based security option for devices, application and websites. The Nok Nok Labs offerings are flexible enough to scale security requirements based on risk for all users and transaction types.
Prior to the conference, on December 2, Dunkelberger will be conducting a webinar with FIDO Alliance president Michael Barrett called “The Password is Dead!” which will discuss the concept driving us towards the post-password future.
