As CARTES 2013 continues to keep the security industry focused on Paris, France, a theme that has proven predictably prominent is mobility, specifically in the field of online transactions (otherwise referred to as mCommerce).
Among the mCommerce solutions on display during the event that runs through until Thursday November 21 is Morpho (Safran)’s 3DBioSecure authentication solution. The mobile solution is notable for bringing biometric face recognition into the world of secure mobile payments. With Morpho’s solution instead of using device-as-authentication second factor like SMS codes texted to a user’s smartphone, payment services can authenticate a user through the use of the mobile device’s built-in camera to make sure she is who she says she is.
Applications like 3DBioSecure have long been thought of as the natural solution when it comes to integrating biometric authentication factors into the mobile experience. Before Apple’s Touch ID offering, experts were pointing to face recognition as a home for trusted transactions. Now that the ball has gotten rolling and the fingerprint sensor fanaticism has calmed down, it is becoming apparent that as predicted in the latest market analysis from Acuity Market Intelligence, the mobile biometrics landscape will be diverse thanks to 3DBioSecure and similarly innovative technologies.
The mobile face recognition solution is being presented in Hall 4, Booth H001 at CATRES this week. It was recognized as a finalist for the SESAMES Award in the category of Trusted Internet/ Authentication.
