The FIDO Alliance has announced that there are now 62 FIDO Certified authentication products. The finding is the result of FIDO’s most recent round of testing for FIDO 1.0 specifications compliance.
It’s good news for the Fast Identity Online Alliance, which has grown quickly into the industry’s most well-respected regulatory institution since its founding in 2013. The newly certified products including authentication devices and servers from the likes of Synaptics, SK Plant, Sensory, MicroStrategy, GoTrust, Feitian, and Egis. The recent round of testing included products from both FIDO Alliance members and companies not yet officially affiliated with the organization, reflecting the strength of the Alliance’s influence; and the products tested were evaluated based on the Universal 2nd Factor (U2F) and Universal Authentication Framework (UAF) standards in the FIDO 1.0 specifications.
Commenting on the progress, FIDO Alliance executive director Brett McDowell highlighted “the diverse range of new FIDO Certified products”, adding that “FIDO 1.0 specifications are designed to be flexible and future-proof, accommodating a variety of modalities and transport bindings.” Ritu Favre, a senior vice president with Synaptics – which has recently been spreading the gospel of FIDO standards in its work with Microsoft on Windows 10 security – pointed to the Alliance’s efforts in pushing the security and authentication industry toward a post-password future, asserting, “We’re proud to contribute to the FIDO Alliance mission of driving towards password-free convenience and high security.” It’s a goal shared by all of FIDO’s members, and one that will ultimately most benefit companies and users as more products seek and attain FIDO certification.
