Google is starting to promote its new Google Home devices in the Upside Down with a new Stranger Things game designed for them.
It is, of course, a voice-based game, operating through Google Assistant. To start playing, Google Home device owners need only to say, “Okay Google, talk to Dustin from Stranger Things,” which will prompt a ‘walkie talkie’ conversation with the charming hero from the Netflix series, the sequel of which is now streaming. From there, users will attempt to guide Dustin and other characters from the show “as they tackle adventures from Season 2,” according to a Google blog post announcing the interactive game.
The game arrives soon after the launch of Google’s latest smart home hubs, the Google Home Mini and the Google Home Max. In this market and that of smartphones, Google is late to the game in comparison to rivals like Amazon and Apple; but it has sought to make up for lost time with sophisticated software. Through its latest devices, its Google Assistant AI software can not only respond to user queries but can also identify the voices of individual users via biometric recognition, with a single device able to differentiate between up to six different members of a given household.
Accordingly, the new Stranger Things game puts that voice interaction at center stage – along with those brave Hawkins kids confronting supernatural forces beyond our comprehension, of course.
