IDEMIA is helping to spread the reach of Samsung Pay in Spain through a partnership with WiZink, a domestic bank offering simple and straightforward savings account and credit card services.
IDEMIA has been producing payment cards for the bank since June of last year. Now, those cards can be virtualized and loaded into Samsung Pay, Samsung’s mobile wallet solution, allowing WiZink customers to make purchases using only their smartphones.
In a statement announcing the development, WiZink Technology and Service Channels Area Director of Operations Ricardo Gómez framed Samsung Pay among “the best innovative and secure payment options” for customers, while IDEMIA Financial Institutions EVP Eric Duforest pointed to the growth of mobile payments.
“Given that contactless payment is becoming ever-more widespread in Spain, we pledge to give clients optimum ways to arrive at novel, scalable and user-friendly solutions while maintaining strict security,” said Duforest.
Of course, Samsung Pay has been active in Spain for quite some time already, having beaten its friendly rival Apple Pay to the country when it launched there in the spring of last year – right around the time that IDEMIA started working with WiZink.
