iWallet Corporation has announced that it will be showcasing its products at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show (CES). The expo will take place in Las Vegas on January 6 though 9, and iWallet will be in the Personal Privacy and Cyber Security Marketplace section.
Known for its digitally-enhanced wallets, which offer biometric locking technology, RFID-blocking, and Bluetooth tethering, the company will be introducing its new iPassport, which is pretty much the same thing, but for passports. CES is a big event, attracting big names from throughout the consumer electronics industry, so it will be a good opportunity for the company to familiarize tech-savvy people with its digitally enhanced products, or “techcessories”, as the company is trying to coin them.
They’ll be facing some stiff competition in the coming months. On the digital wallet front, Apple Pay has begun to roll into the marketplace, offering biometric security for convenient mobile commerce transactions, and it seems poised to be a big hit. Next year, MasterCard will launch a new credit card that offers contactless payments, with embedded fingerprint biometric technology. As for passports, federal governments such as Canada’s are starting to introduce their own digital passports featuring biometric functionality, in what is likely to become a worldwide trend.
Still, iWallet combines a lot of advanced security technologies into one package, and according to the company its design is one “offering consumers the opportunity to elevate their fashion quotient”. Will that be enough to counter the pending redundancies outlined above? Attendees at CES will soon get to judge for themselves.
